Awethors Event: Interview with Rebecca McCray

Our sixteenth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Rebecca McCray. If you can’t wait to read her latest novel, get it on Amazon now at a special countdown rate just for this event!

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
Several items: I’m happy to answer questions about my novel and series throughout the day. Two of the giveaway book packages include copies of my e-book. I also expect my book cover to compete well in the Cover Wars! Finally and for the event, my book will be on a countdown special on Amazon (US and UK).
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
My novel, The Journey of the Marked, can be found on Amazon (print and e-book). The TMH_FINAL_Amazonbook leans toward fantasy, but with a sci-fi influence and was written with the YA reader in mind, though it appeals to a wide variety of readers. At its core, the story focuses on the value of differences (i.e. ability, culture, perspectives) and how these together can increase the likelihood of overcoming obstacles…like individuals trying to kill you.
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
Writing settles me. A story plays in my head constantly. My imagination tends toward the dark and terrifyingly vivid. I find that writing helps me focus in all parts of my life.
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
I struggle with questions like these as they’re narrow, so I’ll answer it a little more broadly. There are three genres that have influenced me and that I love: fantasy/sci-fi, mysteries, and culturally-based (auto)biographies. Cultural differences fascinate me as is evident throughout my story.
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
I plan to attend on and off during the day. However, as I live in the western part of the US, I likely won’t surface until afternoon for those of you in Europe. You should be able to find me from 9am-11am Pacific Time (17:00 to 19:00 GMT), as well as possibly other times. To help with the day, I volunteered to chaperone the 5pm-9pm Pacific Time slot (1:00 to 5:00 GMT Monday), so I’ll definitely be online then.
Author Bio
Rebecca always has a story “playing” in her thoughts. If she puts a book down, her imagination grabs the story and starts creating alternate storylines, expanding on the world to which she’s already been introduced by the author. Over time, she began developing the concept of an advanced species that is the imminent example of the “survival of the fittest” evolution theory. That species was the beginning of her series, The Miyran Heir. The first book in the series, The Journey of the Marked, is now available on Amazon.
An avid reader, she enjoys fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries, and culturally-based biographies/travel stories. She is intrigued by cultural differences and this appreciation for variations throughout the world can be seen in her writing.
Awethors Event: Interview with Kelly Marsden
Our fifteenth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Kelly Marsden. Kelly isn’t just taking part in Awethors discussions, Cover Wars, and giveaways, she’s also holding an event for Awethors on her blog!
~~~

1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?

I’m really looking forward to the organized chaos! I’ll be giving away ebook copies of my The-Shadow-Risesentire Witch-Hunter trilogy, the first book of which will be battling it out in the ecover contest (I hope you’ll all come and vote!).

I will also be hosting an Awethors takeover all day on my precious blog – The Northern Witch’s Book Blog – including lovely giveaways.

There will be a discussion on the Awethors board about who people support in the above trilogy. Are they #TeamWitch or #TeamMMC?

2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?

My most recent publication is The Shadow Falls, the exciting finale of the Witch-Hunter trilogy. It was a lot of fun to write – it has its own twists and turns and answers all the mysteries of the previous two books (while opening many more). I hope people will appreciate the mix of historical facts and modern trials.

It is available in ebook and paperback through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.

3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?

I always have music on in the background. I find that the silence is overwhelming if I don’t, and I need something to engage my senses.

It can also help when that one line in a song stands out and directs your thoughts down a track you might not have considered, but turns out to be inspiring.

My music of choice will always be rock and British indie bands.

4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.

Just one? Okay, in that case I will go with the book on my shelf that has been read so many times that the cover is all crumpled and faded, and the pages are held together by tape: The Silver Brumby by Elyne Mitchell.

My best friend gave it to me for my tenth birthday (actually, the same best friend who, 17 years later, persuaded me to become an indie-published writer), and I have read and re-read it. I fell in love with the characters, and it allowed me to escape to another place full of excitement and loyalty. It was the first book that really inspired me to dream.

5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?

I will endeavour to be there as much as possible, I’m excited to see what is going to roll out. I’m based in the UK, so I’ll be running on British Summer Time!

Awethors Event: Interview with Claire Plaisted

Our fourteenth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Claire Plaisted. She has ten books on the market and counting, including romance and a children’s book – quite varied!

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
I am giving away an ebook version of Malachy’s Unit, which is the first book in Garrett Malachy's Unit 2nd EditionEbookInvestigation Bureau (GIB) series. I will also participate in the character talks, chat and Cover Wars.
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
My latest work is Book 5 in the Garrett Investigation Bureau (GIB) series. It’s called Mascosta’s Dreamgirl. You can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, Apple and many more online stores.
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
My fingers drive me to write, as do my generally noisy characters, who seem to argue a lot at times. I have no idea where the plots or anything else comes from. I tend to do as I’m Mascosta eBooktold. Muse or pixie on my shoulder is what I like to think.
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
There are two books. Valley of Song by Elizabeth Goudge and The Chronicles of Narnia (series) by C S Lewis.
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
I’m about 18 hours ahead of the USA, so I will be there for as long as possible, though when it hits Monday here, I have a volunteer job to do.
Author Bio
Hi everyone! My name is Claire Plaisted. I live in Rotorua, New Zealand with my family and two cats. Rotorua is one of the main tourist stops for a cultural Maori experience with lots of things to do, be it walking, cycling, museums, spa days, etc.
I am an indie author with sidelines in genealogy where I research and format family history books for clients. I have also developed a business to help indie authors self-publish. I have published six books for clients so far.
Plaisted Publishing House will format your draft books into ebook and print format; along with this we will help you find an editor and book cover designer if they are needed. My main aim is to get as many indie authors published and online as possible with reasonable costs. After all, not everyone is computer savvy.
Back to me! I have published ten of my own books so far. Two are short stories and five are part of a series called Garrett Investigation Bureau. I have one erotic fantasy, one children’s mythical story and a contemporary romance under my pen name, Beth Bayley.
I started to write in 2012 quite by accident and ended up with a Regency historical novel, which still needs editing and publishing. From that time on, I have not stopped. My work has been a continual learning curve that includes designing websites and learning how to use Word more efficiently.
At present I am working on a war diary and attending college to help enhance my small business management skills.
Enjoy looking at my books. I will be updating and leaving teasers as I learn to use WordPress more efficiently.
Awethors Event: Interview with Tory Gates
Our thirteenth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Tory Gates, otherwise known as DJ Riff. Tory writes literary fiction that deals with relevant cultural issues in a readable way, and his upcoming book will be YA/Mainstream.
~~~

1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?

A free copy of my first book, Parasite Girls; the cover is also entered in the Cover Wars competition.

2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?

Parasite Girls is available through Amazon.com, either in physical or Kindle form. E-Parasite Girls coverreaders of other kinds may also purchase the book through Smashwords.

I am currently in the editing process for my next work, A Moment in the Sun, a Young Adult/Mainstream crossover story that will be released later this year by Sunbury Press.

3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?

There are so many different forces that have inspired me over the years. Music is indeed one of these; as a broadcaster I was exposed to so much over the years, it’s hard to not be inspired in another creative direction.

Writing was another expression beyond what I did for a living. I also found it became a great form of therapy. I was unable at first to write about myself, but I found I could write about other people’s experiences. Then I gradually began to chip away at the things inside me, which were even better, as I lived them.

4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.

That’s a tie: The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I read the former for the first time when I was nine, and LOTR at ten (so I read them long before they were cool!). Tolken’s creation of Middle Earth (which spanned over 20 years) is a journey of imagination that I’ve never encountered before or since, and I don’t think we ever will. It proved to me from an early age there were no boundaries for creativity and storytelling.

5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?

I will be on for the midday hours, hopefully. As I have promoted the event on this, I’ll shamelessly plug: I host a Sunday afternoon program called The Music Club on Radio-Airwaves Station from 4-6 pm Eastern, at www.radio-airwaves.co.uk – perhaps I can provide some music of interest for you during that time!

Awethors Event: Interview with Lynne Murray

Our twelfth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Lynne Murray, who writes to bring readers into new worlds and unique situations.

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
I’ve entered the Gravitas cover in the Cover Wars contest. I also hope to give away a Mobi and/or EPub copy of Bride of the Living Dead, a romantic comedy about a woman who loves monster movies too much. I’ll be happy to talk about anything on the day.
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
GRAVITAS: VALKYRIE IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE. Available for Kindle at GRAVITAS -92 KBhttp://amzn.com/B00U4EOBR0
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U4EOBR0
In all other formats at
https://draft2digital.com/book/84993
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25055762-gravitas
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
When I read, I want to be surprised, captivated and taken away to another world where things are different. Writing fiction delivers that experience for me even more strongly! As an author, I infinitely prefer making people laugh out loud to making them shiver in fear or cry, but sometimes those things happen as well.
Every book springs from a different need, seed or craving. Usually it’s my need to turn things upside down. For example, in Bride of the Living Dead, I wanted to write a romance about a woman who hates weddings, loves monster movie T-shirts and finds herself trapped in a formal wedding planned by her control freak sister.
Gravitas: Valkyrie in the Forbidden Zone sprang from a desire to write about Valkyrie, a planet where women rule, an aphrodisiac is the major export and a secret relationship with the planet Earth and its inhabitants goes back 30,000 years.
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
I must join the legions admiring Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, a book to live for and live in.
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
I will definitely be there from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, but I may drop in before or after too, just because it sounds like too much fun to stay away.
~~~

Author Bio

Reading, writing and what we can charitably call an active fantasy life have been very central to who I am for as long as I can remember. My father was a scientist working for the military, so I grew up in Illinois, Texas, Alaska, Washington, and finally Southern California. I wrote my first book before I could read. I loved the books my parents read to me and was certain I could write one. I was a much-indulged only child and they typed it up for me to illustrate with crayons.

Another early memory was being driven across the Golden Gate Bridge. My parents told me what it was called, and I protested that it was not gold. I know orange when I see it and that bridge was and is orange (okay, dark reddish-orange). The idea that the bridge was across the Golden Gate, the opening into San Francisco Bay, was way too complicated for me at that age. But I never forgot the bridge, the sun and the water. I always expected to move to San Francisco.

In 1968 I moved here and not long afterward I started to practice Buddhism, which I still do daily. I got a degree in psychology and decided to devote my life to writing fiction. Not a sane move financially. But the dream has been so strong that I had to make whatever sacrifices necessary to follow it.

Fast-forward 47 years: I’ve had nine novels published with large and small presses and now I’m self-published. When not reading or writing, I spend my time staring at the ocean and catering to the whims of a small group of formerly feral felines, rescued cats who daily return the favor.

Awethors Event: Interview with Joe Compton

Our eleventh awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Joe Compton. He’s an indie author as well as president of his publishing company Never Mind The Fine Print LLC. Check out the story of how he came to start his own publishing company!

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
My book, Amongst The Killing, will be part of one of the bundled giveaways. I believe it will be in the thriller category. I also have a chat room on my website that I will be opening up for everyone on the 12th.
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
It’s called Amongst The Killing, a crime thriller available at Amazon.com on Kindle and inATK Final Final Cover paperback here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TYXGT36 and at Smashwords for all other ebook versions here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/521250.
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
I am fascinated and curious about human nature and the human condition. I always had this wild imagination, so I took the discipline I was taught and put it use in writing. It’s one of the few things I like to do that doesn’t seem like work, though anyone who knows me knows I put a lot into everything I do.
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
Short stories of Edgar Allen Poe. I read them a very young age and said I want to write like that. Of course I discovered it’s a lot harder than it looks, but the spirit of the way he wrote is very much a kindred spirit for me.
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
I will be there as much as I can. I will have specific “hot times” to be in the chat room event I am planning, but for the most part I will be in and out at various times during the day.
Writing has always been a passion. Published in his school anthology at an early age, Joe was able to get his first taste of self-publishing, having gotten to see firsthand what it took to publish and sell something on your own.
Right out of school Joe joined the Marines, and while serving his country, Joe wrote the first draft of Amongst The Killing. When Joe got out he began pursuing his writing dream in Denver. He got an agent and they actually got an offer from a publishing company. Alas, though, they wanted to groom this manuscript toward a movie of the week theme and were looking to change the entire concept. Joe didn’t want to go along with those plans and walked away.
Soured from his experience, Joe began pursuing a different writing avenue through screenplays and filmmaking, and they were as equally strong of a passion as novel writing. While still in Denver, Joe began making short films. He made three of his own, and though success would elude him in the traditional sense, he found another type of success. The relationships he forged and the avenues he opened up led him to realize he was not alone in his experiences, and thus he decided to build a publishing brand. A company that could help others like him be discovered. It took some time, but now Never Mind The Fine Print Publishing LLC is here. Their first effort is Joe’s book he wrote all those many years ago, Amongst The Killing.
Awethors Event: Interview with Cortina Jackson
~~~

1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?

I will have a free book giveaway; I will also give away my introduction to my book with background sounds from Hell on CD. I am getting a few more prizes to give away as well. I do plan on also doing a discussion, as my fiction thriller On Earth As It Is In Hell definitely sparks conversation.

2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?

My book is entitled On Earth As It Is In Hell it can be found on my website at on earth as it is in hell_cortinajacksonhttp://www.cortinajackson.com/. It is also available at Amazon.com,

https://www.amazon.com/author/cortinajackson, Barnes and Noble.com, and Apple iBookstore.

3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?

Writing is therapeutic for me. Everything that I want to express, whether it is sadness, joy, disappointment, or excitement, I am able to put my thoughts on paper and truly make the reader feel what I feel. I also want them to see it through my eyes, so I am able to paint a vivid picture.

4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.

I really enjoyed reading a book by Mary K. Baxter titled A Devine Revelation of Hell; it was the first book that I read from cover to cover. It opened my eyes and intrigued me. I sought to write a book that would intrigue people without insulting them or forcing them to believe in anything. This is definitely that book, and it has been compared to Constantine and Devil’s Advocate, both starring Keanu Reeves.

5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?

I plan to be there all day!! I truly cannot wait to meet so many amazing people! Meet you there!

Awethors Event: Interview with Rachel Cotterill

Our ninth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Rachel Cotterill. Visiting her social media links doesn’t just give you insight into her books, you’ll find scrumptious recipes and food photos!

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
I’ll be giving away books, answering questions, and offering readers the opportunity to sign up for ARCs of new releases. Plus, naturally, taking part in some of the fun events like Cover Wars!
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
My latest release is a fantasy mystery novella called The Falconer, which follows Roan’s watersmeet_ebook_smattempts to uncover the truth after he witnesses a suspicious death. You can download it free from https://payhip.com/b/CKi2 or from most major ebook stores.
My most recent full-length work, also published this year, is Watersmeet – a tale of alchemy and romance set in the same world.
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t tell stories; it comes as naturally to me as breathing. At least these days I get to share my work with willing readers, rather than getting in trouble for spinning tales to my (surprisingly gullible) school friends!
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
Hmm, probably Dune. I read it when I was quite young and the sweeping mixture of space adventure and fantasy elements really caught my imagination. Frank Herbert is indirectly responsible for most of what I read (and write) today!
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
I’ll be in and out all day, at least during reasonable UK hours. And I’ll have my phone in my pocket the rest of the time, if anyone wants to tag me to get my attention!
Awethors Event: Interview with Sunshine Somerville
Our eighth awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Sunshine Somerville (how cool is her name?!). She’s going to have some fun competitions at the Awethors event with multiple chances to win her books.
~~~

1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?

I plan to have an ongoing Q&A discussion about my books in The Kota Series. I’ll pick my favorite question, and that winner will receive free paperback copies of books 1-4 (the Kota Cover Bigwhole series).

I’ll also have a “What actor would best play this character?” competition where I’ll post drawn pictures of my characters, and my favorite four winners will receive free ebooks of book 1.

(Psst: ebook versions of books 2-4 will be free on Amazon all day)

2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?

I just finished putting together an ebook box set for The Kota Series. That’s on pre-order right now for $4.99 and will release 12/18/2015 at: http://amzn.to/1CW9Yc7.

3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?

I’ve been writing The Kota Series since I was nine, so I’ve always had a lot of ideas in my head. I love creating anything, really, and world-building is my absolute favorite part of writing. I think, like most writers, there’s just so much in my head that I have to get it out there!

4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.

I can never pick a favorite! But The Chronicles of Narnia was definitely the first book I ever remember reading as a kid and thinking, “Aha! I want to make my own worlds,” so that series was pretty influential to my start as a writer.

5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?

I’ll definitely get my above-mentioned discussions/contests going by 8:00 a.m. EST. I plan to check every hour (at least) until midnight to keep things going. And of course I’m excited to interact with all the other authors (I hope to win book goodies for myself!), so you’ll probably see me around a lot all day.

Awethors Event: Interview with Isaac Jourden

Our seventh awesome author in the countdown until the Get Down With The Awethors Facebook event on April 12 is Isaac Jourden. Sales in the month of April from his debut novel will be donated to water.org, so if you don’t win a copy at the Awethors event, help a worthy cause afterwards!

~~~
1. What will you be sharing with the group on April 12 at the Get Down With The Awethors event? Free book giveaway, sneak peek, merchandise, holding a competition, discussion?
I’m promoting my first novel, Petty. I am giving away copies as part of the Contemporary Fiction bundle, but also, all the profits from sales on Petty in March and April are being donated to water.org, and purchasing enters you into a drawing (with a randomly selected winner) for cool prizes like an Amazon gift card, a Kindle, an Xbox One, and more!
Details on how to enter are all at http://www.isaacjourden.com.
2. What is your latest book or work, and where can we find it?
Petty is my first novel; it’s about a small-time con artist working in an amusement park Petty-Front-Fulland trying to keep his social life and his underhanded activity separate. It’s out now and available on Amazon.com in ebook for $2.99 or paperback for $11.99. Reviews have been good – currently 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon!
My second novel, The Gravedigger’s Girlfriend, is currently going through the editing process and will hopefully be released this summer. I’d say the writing style is inspired in tone – if not in content – by authors like Chuck Palahniuk and Douglas Coupland.
3. What drives you to write? Music, an interest in the human mind, is it cathartic for you?
I really enjoy strategy games and logic puzzles because of that “aha!” moment when you discover something that makes all the various pieces work to give you the correct solution. Novel writing for me is much the same – I like writing stories about characters whose lives interweave in unpredictable but inevitable ways, starting with things that seem unconnected but build to a big finish.
So for me, novel writing is kind of like a big puzzle, and finding that missing piece that ties everything together elegantly is incredibly satisfying.
4. What’s your favorite book in the world? One you couldn’t imagine having lived your life without reading.
This is a tough one because so many books could fit that description. I’d have to say Dune by Frank Herbert is my all-time favorite. I love the way the story is focused on the characters much more than the plot. I love the way all the characters are weaving schemes nested within schemes and the way that all the characters are intelligent, self aware, and mostly amoral. The psychology of it is so engaging, and the heroes and villains all match wits well. I really appreciate that.
5. When will you be at the Awethors event on April 12? All day or at a certain time?
As much as I can, off and on all day. I’ve put aside the day to focus on being at the event as much as possible!
